Crock Pot Month

I am sorry Mom, I know that you hate this kind of post, but it is what it is today.

When I did my meal planning for the month of January I was tired of our same old meals so I decided to try a bunch of new recipes from http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/ and I decided to post the winners. It was probably not the most cost effective way to cook.  (It has been so nice that I haven't been in the mood for cheap soups! Fareway has those cheap little bottles of wine that are perfect for some of these recipes.) There are quite a few diary free recipes on her site so I was a happy camper, and she gives the verdict in her family's opinion so that was helpful in choosing what I wanted to make.

Clove Garlic Chicken-This was Jordan's favorite, but not mine.  I will try it again with chicken breast.  I used thighs and they are not my first choice in meat.
Beef and Broccoli-I thought that this was great.  It is a small meal.  It worked to feed all of us because the kids do not do seconds on broccoli!
Brown Sugar Chicken-This is a crazy amount of sugar, but I wanted a meal that everyone would eat.  I hoped that most of the sugar stayed in the drippings left in the bottom of the pot.  Reuben and Elise loved it !
Red Wine and Cranberry Glazed Beef-This was AMAZING. Not a leftover in sight.  As with all roasts this one needs to be completely thawed before cooking and takes a full 7.5-8 hours to cook, but I have made it twice because I loved it so much!
Coq Au Vin-I used white wine instead of red because the idea of purple chicken didn't amuse me much.  I will be making this one again soon as well!

Brussels Spouts-I had never had Brussels spouts before, but I am trying new foods in 2012!  These were easy and good.  I don't know that I will make them again, but I am glad that I tried them!  We had guests for supper that night, and they had seconds!

Cloth Diapers, here I come?

This may be a boring blog entry, but no one is forcing you to read this so here it goes! A friend asked me a few years back "Have you ever thought about switching to cloth diapers?" "Are you crazy? No!" was my oh too quick response.  I had been around cloth diapers just enough to know that they were no longer pins and rubber pants like the good old days, but I had no intention of going down that road. I had heard people talk of wet bags and hemp inserts and did not wish to complicate my life in that way. Something changed, however, somewhere in during my third pregnancy. I think it was fearing that I would be buying diapers the rest of my life. I looked into it, but just enough to be sticker shocked by the "Cadillac" of cloth diapers ($20 a diaper!) I thought that it was going to be a huge investment and not worth the hassle since I hadn't started with Jonah.  I did however go back to my friend and tell her that I no longer thought that she was crazy...

Vos, Party of 6

I have been thinking about what to do with this blog post for a while now.  I have had various ideas what to say and how to say it.  I think that the best way is to do a FAQ list.  Here is everything that you may (and more likely than not may not) want to know. There is a couple of dangers in doing this specific post.  1)I don't want it to come across that I do not want to talk about the baby since I am writing about it.  I just was afraid that much of the conversation would get lost in cyberspace since we were announcing electronically.  2) I can be a little sarcastic at times and people might "hear" bitterness in some of my answers, but there is none there!  I did my best to proof this so that I do not offend anyone.  When are you due?   My EDD is December 29th.  Jordan thinks this is perfect as long as I have the baby by the 31st.  That way he gets the tax credit this year and gets to pay for it with Flex next y...
