Confessions of a Homeschool Worrier

I love homeschooling.  Thus far I have no regrets about our decision to start our family on this path.  Last year I ended the year feeling very encouraged that we had done a good thing for Jonah, because by homeschooling we were able to teach him in a way that he learned best.  However all of this does not mean that I homeschool with the utmost confidence.  The act of taking full responsibility for my children's education right now weighs on me, and I give way to worry.  God is teaching me to trust Him. When we started this year I knew that Jonah was still behind, but he continued work hard and progress so I had no concerns.  I had a meeting with his supervising teacher in November who tried to say that she was also not concerned, but wanted me to know that if we were enroll him now he would qualify for remedial help with reading.  Instead of being thankful that we were able to spare him from going to the classroom and being labeled "Slow," I was crushed.  I chose not li

Another boring update

Wow let's see...what is new?  Life is clicking along.  With this weather the winter is not dragging along. That is so nice, but I haven't even gone to the Botanical Center because I am not desperate yet.  I may need to just get a day on the calendar! Elise is walking now.  Hip Hip Hooray!  I don't love the crawling stage.  I think that babies are so much happier when they learn how to walk.  I think (fingers crossed) that we have landed on rice milk for the little lady.  She is sleeping better now and her eczema is almost gone.  :)  Between pointing, signing and the few words that she knows she communicates all that she wants to us.  She is sweet, but my what a temper she has!  Don't expect her to back down. Reuben is hugging three.  I like three.  They say such funny things.  He doesn't know how blessed he is to have Audrey as a big sister.  She has taught him how to play house quite well and they play and play and play.  It is pretty cute at our house church h

Overnight Baked Oatmeal

1 1/2 cups of rolled oats 1 cup milk (I have only made this with non-dairy milk, and I still thought that it was good! I am sure that it would be good with real milk and butter too, but most of the oatmeal eaters at my house are dairy free so d-free it is!) 1/4 cup of butter or coconut oil 1 eggs 1 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp salt 1 Tbsp. brown sugar 1/2 tsp cinnamon 1/2 tsp vanilla Melt oil/butter and add baking powder, salt, brown sugar, cinnamon and vanilla. Stir in milk and egg. Add oats. Put in greased loaf pan, cover and let set in fridge over night. Bake at 350 for about 30 minutes. Serve with maple syrup over it. (Can be doubled and put into a 9x13)

Crock Pot Month

I am sorry Mom, I know that you hate this kind of post, but it is what it is today.  When I did my meal planning for the month of January I was tired of our same old meals so I decided to try a bunch of new recipes from http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/  and I decided to post the winners. It was probably not the most cost effective way to cook.  (It has been so nice that I haven't been in the mood for cheap soups! Fareway has those cheap little bottles of wine that are perfect for some of these recipes.) There are quite a few diary free recipes on her site so I was a happy camper, and she gives the verdict in her family's opinion so that was helpful in choosing what I wanted to make. Clove Garlic Chicken -This was Jordan's favorite, but not mine.  I will try it again with chicken breast.  I used thighs and they are not my first choice in meat. http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/2009/04/crockpot-20-to-40-clove-garlic-chicken.html Beef and Broccoli -I thought that this was g
