A Race to the Finish

People have been sending me messages curious how things are going so I thought I should send out a little update.  Jordan and I are currently in a race to see what will break first: his fever or my water!
Last week Audrey started in with a little virus that caused a high fever and headache for about a week.  This week Jordan has had it.  Fever, headache, cough...he hasn't even checked his email so you know he is miserable!
My edd was Wednesday.  It has been crazy being due so closely to Christmas.  The midwife really didn't think that I would make it through, but I did.  I am very uncomfortable and was told Wednesday that I am nearly a 4 so she is not really sure why I have not had this baby yet.  She said maybe just 48 more hours.  I have exceeded that prediction as well.  She also said that Jordan cannot come until he is fever free with no meds so I need a different plan.
I do not want to have this baby without Jordan so my first plan has been to sit at home and keep this baby inside until he is better.  Yesterday his med free temp was just under 102 so that is down from the 103.5 the day before!  Progress?  I have contractions all the time, but I am ignoring them for the most part.  I keep getting asked how close they are but as long as I do not have more than 3 per half hour kids show I figure I am good to go no matter how painful they are!  (Yes, a few rules have been broken this week as we try to keep them mellow for mommy and quiet for daddy!)  Plan B has been to have a good friend as a labor coach and our neighbors as a chauffeur to the hospital (last night was the first night I thought I might trust Jordan behind the wheel!)
Yesterday I began to loose ground.  Jordan commented that I was moving very slowly.  My parents came and took the kids overnight,  few less times getting up to refill drinks, a few less times lifting Reuben.  Funny, this was our first childless night since before Reuben was born!  After they left I literally just sat there for 3 hours until I gave up and went to bed around 8:00!  Physically, mentally, emotionally I am toast!  I needed a little time to refuel so that I can go a few more days or have a baby whichever I need to.  Unless I go into labor sometime today the plan is to get my babies back tonight.  (They by the way were more than happy to leave, and I quote "It is so boring here!"  Sorry Jonah!) I hated to have to let them go knowing that I have a few days coming up without them, but we will all live!
I have another appointment on Wednesday to check and see how the baby is and how I am-ultrasound, non stress test, check up.  After that I think we will come up with some sort of induction plan.  I really hope that Jordan was healed during the night, and that we can move on soon!  That sounds like the best plan to me.  Until then I believe that God is just holding this baby in place until all are healthy here and it is safe to come out!

Oh happy Day!

I am cautiously announcing a dairy victory!  (Cautiously, because I have declared victory before only to have to have to recant my declaration!)  I have been cooking with low reacting dairy products and have not noticed any effects on Reuben or Elise!  :)  I have been letting them have one meal with baked in dairy each day.  (We have skipped a day or two because so many of the recipes in my rotation are d-free now that I had to make an effort to put it in!)  I have been able to use butter, buttermilk and in a few recipes I used half dairy milk half non dairy.  Why is this so exciting?  First, we went to a picnic the other day and I didn't read labels.  I didn't have to be "that mom."  Second, I will be able to save some money!  D-free chocolate chips can be expensive, and real food butter substitutes are expensive.  Third, I don't have to experiment with nasty d-free cookie recipes any more!  If it never gets better ...

Reuben's 9 month Check up!

I have been praying that the Doctor would have wisdom as I brought Reuben in for his month. It is funny how baby three has in some ways made me feel like a new mom all over again. Let me brag on myself first, for the first time in a long time we were not late. I always under estimate how long it is going to take to load and unload with three kids, hats, gloves, and a stroller! Our big question for Dr. John was Reuben's excessive spitting. He asked me a few questions and decided that we needed to get in for an upper GI. This should tell us why (acid reflux, a problem flap or valve) and how much damage has been done. Then we can determine a course of action (surgery, meds or wait and see.) He seemed to think that it needed to be done very soon which was funny, but I am very, very happy with this plan. I had some questions about other food allergies. He does not think that we need to go to an allergist yet. He was not surprised that peaches was in my list of food suspects though. As ...
