A pregnancy moment

I should not be blogging now.  I should be unloading groceries or making supper, but there are no groceries in the house yet today.  Today I had my first episode of "Pregnancy Brain" for this round.  Not bad since I am 6 months into it, but it has been a morning.

Jonah had class this morning and he likes to be the first one there.  I didn't mind being a little early because there was a teacher I hoped to talk to.  She wasn't there this morning, I got my times mixed up and Jonah ended up being at class 20 minutes early.  Oops!  I would have stayed and waited with him, but he is very independent about these classes and pushed me out.  So the little two and I headed out to run errands.

We waisted some time at Campbell's and then headed for Hy-Vee to get groceries.  We have a couple hours (plus 20 minutes this time!) so we were in no hurry.  We got all situated at Hy-Vee, and then I realized that I left my list in the van.  I had a lot of not normal groceries that I needed so while normally I would have tested my memory this time I went back to the van to get my list.  I reached for my keys, and yes, they were missing.  I peaked into the van window to see that they had dropped on the floor by Reuben's seat.  I was very thankful at that moment that I had come back to the van for the list and realized my situation before I had tons groceries and still  had plenty of time before I needed to pick Jonah up.  I figured at this point my only option was to call my neighbor Julie and have her get my spare key from the house and bring it to me.  I reach for my cell phone, and yes, it too was missing.  A second peak into the van revealed that it was laying between my seat and the passenger seat.  Now what?  The only Des Moines number that I have memorized is Jordan's cell, and yes, he's in Rock Island today for work.  So I went inside for help!

Customer Service called the West Des Moines Police Department, and they agreed to send an officer to my aid.  We headed back outside to wait.  We stood there for a few minutes when I saw my neighbor Lori and her daughter walking into Hy-Vee.  I hollered "Hello!" and we exchanged "What are you doing clear over here?"s.  I explained that I was at this Hy-Vee because it was close to the school where Jonah has class, and I was specifically standing by the tree letting my kids play with the mulch because I was waiting for a police officer to unlock my car.  She graciously decided to wait with me since I had no cell phone.

It was at this point that I thought to myself, "What are the chances that I run into Lori here when there are at least a dozen grocery stores closer to our neighborhood?  This is not a good sign. God sent her because police are not going to be able to help me."  Sure enough after waiting 45 minutes for the police to arrive he was not able to unlock the van.  He offered to call a locksmith for me, but said in his experience it would be at lease another hour before my van would be unlocked.  A quick check of the time revealed that I now had 10 minutes before Jonah was out of class.  My sweet neighbor then gave me the keys to her car so I could go get Jonah then home to get my spare key while she hung out at Hy-Vee with two extra kids.

All in all I think that I wasted at least and hour and a half of her day.  She advised me not to operate any heavy machinery for the day and go back to bed as soon as possible!   Good idea.  So we did B-Bops for lunch and will try groceries again this afternoon!  Audrey has already suggested that I leave the van unlocked this time!

Vos, Party of 6

I have been thinking about what to do with this blog post for a while now.  I have had various ideas what to say and how to say it.  I think that the best way is to do a FAQ list.  Here is everything that you may (and more likely than not may not) want to know. There is a couple of dangers in doing this specific post.  1)I don't want it to come across that I do not want to talk about the baby since I am writing about it.  I just was afraid that much of the conversation would get lost in cyberspace since we were announcing electronically.  2) I can be a little sarcastic at times and people might "hear" bitterness in some of my answers, but there is none there!  I did my best to proof this so that I do not offend anyone.  When are you due?   My EDD is December 29th.  Jordan thinks this is perfect as long as I have the baby by the 31st.  That way he gets the tax credit this year and gets to pay for it with Flex next y...

Reuben's 9 month Check up!

I have been praying that the Doctor would have wisdom as I brought Reuben in for his month. It is funny how baby three has in some ways made me feel like a new mom all over again. Let me brag on myself first, for the first time in a long time we were not late. I always under estimate how long it is going to take to load and unload with three kids, hats, gloves, and a stroller! Our big question for Dr. John was Reuben's excessive spitting. He asked me a few questions and decided that we needed to get in for an upper GI. This should tell us why (acid reflux, a problem flap or valve) and how much damage has been done. Then we can determine a course of action (surgery, meds or wait and see.) He seemed to think that it needed to be done very soon which was funny, but I am very, very happy with this plan. I had some questions about other food allergies. He does not think that we need to go to an allergist yet. He was not surprised that peaches was in my list of food suspects though. As ...
