They are growing up so fast!

I have heard it said of motherhood that they days are so long, but the years are so short. As I stopped this week and said aloud that I would soon have a 5, 3 and 1 year old I most certainly believe it!

Reuben climbed up the stairs (with me behind him!) this week. The older two were so excited as the lay at the top cheering him on! He also started taking a paci which sounds backwards I know, but he was becoming very fond of his thumb, and we all know what a battle it is to get rid of those things! I am working really hard to switch his little internal clock so that he sleeps through MY night (getting up at 4:00 is getting very old but when he goes down at 6:30 I feel I had to go get him!) Last night I managed to keep him up until 8:00 and he slept until 6:30. I slept EIGHT hours in a row. I felt like a million bucks!

We have thought that Audrey might have a future career in law enforcement because of her strong desire to make sure that everyone follows the rules and maintains order, but her new phrase this week shows that she also has a few negotiation skills as well. "Because otherwise..." I have heard that one more than a few times. Now when I ask her to do something she replies that she can't "because otherwise" and fill in the blank she has a reason why it does not make sense for her to obey. Maybe she will be a lawyer?

She did something this week that she will hate me later for telling everyone, but it was too funny! On several past occasions while I when I was nursing Reuben she would lift of her shirt and feed her baby. She would tell me that her baby was eating from her tummy. Now Audrey thinks that she needs to wear undershirts all the time under her clothes so that she has "Straps like mommy." She calls them "bibs." Saturday I found her on the couch and dolly Samantha was "eating from her tummy" and she said "Look Mommy! I have paper bibs now!" She had gotten two pieces of paper, bunched them all up and shoved them down her undershirt! I am not sure what I should have done, but I just started laughing. I couldn't help it and every time I picture my well endowed 2 year old nursing her doll I start laughing again.

Jonah, Jonah...his big thing this week was bad words and bad movies. He really wanted me to list out all the words that he couldn't say. I did not take the bait on that one. He also wants to watch "bad movies like Aladdin" when he gets bigger. Crazy boy! We let him have an edited veiwing of Aladdin on Friday night and it was a fun trip down memory lane. I still have much of that Disney classic memorized!

Oh happy Day!

I am cautiously announcing a dairy victory!  (Cautiously, because I have declared victory before only to have to have to recant my declaration!)  I have been cooking with low reacting dairy products and have not noticed any effects on Reuben or Elise!  :)  I have been letting them have one meal with baked in dairy each day.  (We have skipped a day or two because so many of the recipes in my rotation are d-free now that I had to make an effort to put it in!)  I have been able to use butter, buttermilk and in a few recipes I used half dairy milk half non dairy.  Why is this so exciting?  First, we went to a picnic the other day and I didn't read labels.  I didn't have to be "that mom."  Second, I will be able to save some money!  D-free chocolate chips can be expensive, and real food butter substitutes are expensive.  Third, I don't have to experiment with nasty d-free cookie recipes any more!  If it never gets better ...

Signs of the times

Jonah was sitting at the table yesterday and said "Mom, I was thinkin' 'bout somethin'.  I want a girlfriend." "What?" "I want a girlfriend? "How about I just be your girlfriend?" "No, I want a little one." "Where did you hear about girlfriends" "Gramma let me borrow her DVD when I had my tonsils out and that boy had a little girlfriend.  I want one." I cannot think of what he watched or what might have reminded him about this concept. Audrey was running ahead on our walk yesterday "Look mom!  I can run fast and I don't even have things in my ears!"  I assume this means earbuds that would connect to her ipod!
