A Great Week

We had a great week this week. Looking back it would seem obvious that we should have had a great week. Jordan's mom and my mom came each came a day to play. We had a big play day on Thursday with our great friends from Ames (We mommies didn't get to get caught up as much as we would have liked, but we thought that surviving 6 kids between the two of us without any real issues or squabbles amongst the kids was a GREAT day!) I got a late Christmas massage on Thursday night and tonight I am looking forward to girls night! Why wouldn't this be a great week? But this week was great for other reasons too. The sunshine, warmer temps, good naps, good attitudes, I stayed caught up on the laundry (even getting it all put away!) and Jordan and I are spending a little time each evening getting caught up on "24"!

Reuben has really responded well to his chiro treatments for his acid reflux. We don't have him on any meds now (NASTY diapers that were disrupting sleep-no, no!) I was charting it like the chiro said and showed it to Jordan. He corrected my chart because I was calling a "bad day" when he would spit a couple times after each bottle. That is still down 66% from what a bad day was. (Don't you love the way an engineer thinks!) He was not a believer in what he calls my "voodoo doctor" (the chiro) but I think that he is now coming around.

I was reading this week some info that was passed on to me about allergies in light of Reuben's diary issue. The more I dug into the allergy subject in general, the more I thought "This sounds like Jonah." It is a total long shot but we have now embarked on a gluten-free experiment with Jonah. We curious if it helps pull together some issues he has with both his tummy and his speech. We will keep you posted. He is now "detoxing" and in general not feeling well. The doctor said that day three would be the worst and that he would feel better after day 10. She encouraged doing this for 30 days. YIKES! That was a little longer of an experiment than I was hoping, but we will see.

We laughed at what a "cheap" child Audrey has been without any health issues, giving up diapers early and she doesn't eat much! The only thing that she costs is a lot of energy! She is very into puzzles this week and just keeps expanding her vocabulary. All the little adjective and adverbs. I love it.

As I was driving to my massage on Thursday I suddenly thought "What in the world am I going to think about for an entire quiet hour?" (One pays to much for a massage to sleep through it!) While I was laying there I wondered "Will we get massages in heaven, becuase this feels wonderful." Then it hit me that there will be no pain, no allergies, no sickness, no stress or strains. We won't need massages and we will have new bodies. Don't get me wrong I am not complaining about my life. I am so blessed, but what a great future is a head!

I love living this life too, even with the trials, but OHHH the joys of Heaven...we've no idea what is to come!

Oh happy Day!

I am cautiously announcing a dairy victory!  (Cautiously, because I have declared victory before only to have to have to recant my declaration!)  I have been cooking with low reacting dairy products and have not noticed any effects on Reuben or Elise!  :)  I have been letting them have one meal with baked in dairy each day.  (We have skipped a day or two because so many of the recipes in my rotation are d-free now that I had to make an effort to put it in!)  I have been able to use butter, buttermilk and in a few recipes I used half dairy milk half non dairy.  Why is this so exciting?  First, we went to a picnic the other day and I didn't read labels.  I didn't have to be "that mom."  Second, I will be able to save some money!  D-free chocolate chips can be expensive, and real food butter substitutes are expensive.  Third, I don't have to experiment with nasty d-free cookie recipes any more!  If it never gets better ...

Signs of the times

Jonah was sitting at the table yesterday and said "Mom, I was thinkin' 'bout somethin'.  I want a girlfriend." "What?" "I want a girlfriend? "How about I just be your girlfriend?" "No, I want a little one." "Where did you hear about girlfriends" "Gramma let me borrow her DVD when I had my tonsils out and that boy had a little girlfriend.  I want one." I cannot think of what he watched or what might have reminded him about this concept. Audrey was running ahead on our walk yesterday "Look mom!  I can run fast and I don't even have things in my ears!"  I assume this means earbuds that would connect to her ipod!
