A little update!

Jonah is loosing teeth fast!  I pulled his second one out at the beginning of week, and I am trying to convince him to let me pull another.  He looks really silly with one crooked tooth in the front!  He just finished up 2 weeks of swimming lessons.  I put both him and Audrey in the same level of class because neither had had lessons before.  To say that he loved them would be an understatement.  I thought that maybe I should have put him up a level, but we kept him where he was.  They ended up separating out the "more confident" kids out of the class and when he got his passing certificate tonight the bumped him up to level 3 so all was not lost in the easy class.  He is trying to exercise more freedom every day.  I am trying to figure out where the boundaries should be.  I structured our week a bit more and worked out for the best but I am so tired!  He loves spending time in his workshop creating all sorts of traps and inventions.  We love the way his mind works.

Audrey, Audrey...she loved swimming lessons too in her own way.  She didn't pass because she will not put her face in the water!  Everyday the would do this little motor boat rhyme that ended with them blowing bubbles with head submerged.  She would pretend, but never do it.  The teacher would catch her cheating ask her to try.  She would try but she does not want water in her ears so she would smile and shake her head no.  Then they would have to do the different floats and strokes every time she would beg the teach to let go so that she could do it herself.  I started teaching her to read this week.  It has been so fun to watch her "get it" and glow!  She is so excited for role as flower girl in a wedding this weekend and in two weeks.  She has it all planned out!

Reuben is having a terrible time with his allergies.  I called the doctor to ask what we can do.  They don't want to test him until he is three.  He cries and says "No Nose!  Icky nose!"  as he sniffs and sneezes on otc meds.  We'll adjust his otc meds and hope that works.  Otherwise to the Dr we go in two weeks.  He is talking more and more everyday.  He loves making us laugh.  I have had to lift him over my head a could times in the past week and I thought "Man I am getting wimpy!"  But then I buttoned his pants yesterday and he said "Too tight!"  so maybe it isn't me!

Elise thinks that she is going to skip independent sitting and go straight to crawling.  I am trying to stop this as "sitting but immobile" is my favorite stage!  She started on fruits and veggies.  She likes it but is so social that she is completely distracted even when she is hungry.  Her naps are not aligning with the kids and so I don't feel like I can get out at all right now.  She is up when the other two are down.  They get up and she goes back down again.  This too shall pass so for now I grocery shop at night, and we will look forward to the pool maybe next summer!

Oh happy Day!

I am cautiously announcing a dairy victory!  (Cautiously, because I have declared victory before only to have to have to recant my declaration!)  I have been cooking with low reacting dairy products and have not noticed any effects on Reuben or Elise!  :)  I have been letting them have one meal with baked in dairy each day.  (We have skipped a day or two because so many of the recipes in my rotation are d-free now that I had to make an effort to put it in!)  I have been able to use butter, buttermilk and in a few recipes I used half dairy milk half non dairy.  Why is this so exciting?  First, we went to a picnic the other day and I didn't read labels.  I didn't have to be "that mom."  Second, I will be able to save some money!  D-free chocolate chips can be expensive, and real food butter substitutes are expensive.  Third, I don't have to experiment with nasty d-free cookie recipes any more!  If it never gets better ...

Signs of the times

Jonah was sitting at the table yesterday and said "Mom, I was thinkin' 'bout somethin'.  I want a girlfriend." "What?" "I want a girlfriend? "How about I just be your girlfriend?" "No, I want a little one." "Where did you hear about girlfriends" "Gramma let me borrow her DVD when I had my tonsils out and that boy had a little girlfriend.  I want one." I cannot think of what he watched or what might have reminded him about this concept. Audrey was running ahead on our walk yesterday "Look mom!  I can run fast and I don't even have things in my ears!"  I assume this means earbuds that would connect to her ipod!
