Home Study Complete

We just finished a home study this morning with Children and Families of Iowa.  (My house is pretty well picked up so I can sit down and type out a quick update!)  We are excited as a family to be in the process of getting approval for the Kidsave Summer Miracles program and looking forward to hosting a child from Colombia for a month this summer!  It is a step of faith, but God has been making it clear in various ways that this is the direction He desires our family to go.

This week has been busy for me in particular filling out paper and running from place to getting the necessary documentation and forms completed.  (In someways it is similar to fostering a child for a month so we are going through about 1/2 of what it would take to become foster parents.)  At one point I looked at Jordan and said, "Doing good is really hard work!"  As I thought about this more I realized that we are trying to overcome evil.  Having a battle mentality gives me more of a desire to fight to "overcome evil with good!"

There was a bit of extra housework getting ready for the home study not knowing if this was a overall "looks good" type of inspection or a look in the closets and under the sink type of inspection.   (It was a general one which was what I was more prepared for!)  It is a little crazy inviting someone in to evaluate if you are fit to have children.

Obviously I wanted my home and children to look "put together."  It was probably me that looked the least put together.  As we began the interview Audrey looked at me and announced, " Mom, I think that you have food on your shirt."  Sure enough, it would have been nice if she would have pointed that out even just 15 minutes earlier.  The case worker also had the kids "help" me describe myself."  Dear sweet Jonah told her, "She loves to find food on Pinterest."  Thanks son.  I then asked children to go find something to do in the other room; they had been helpful enough!

The case worker will create a profile for our family, then work to match our profile with a child's profile and send them to us for review.  Our prayer is that God would first use us to model His love.  Second, we are praying that we could play a part in helping a child find a forever family.

More adventures to come...

A Very Late Posting of 1st Day of Enrichment Class!

Yep, enrichment classes started over a month ago and I am just now posting the "First Day of Class" photos.  This year we cut back to just one day.  It is lovely.  Jonah and Audrey are both taking art and science.  Jonah is also taking drama.  I am really curious to see how he does with that because he has been really excited about it.  The back packs are completely unnecessary, but a must for the back to class picture!     Getting Ready to head out!   Miss Poser as she gets ready to go inside!    Way too cool for this   Me too Mom!

A little extra help

I had heard that age 8 was when a mom feels like a child can really help out around the house.  I must have an exceptional child because Jonah has become very helpful at 7 1/2!  :)    I kept asking him to load the washing machine, and then one day I heard it running!  He took it upon himself to start the machine as well.  A couple of quick lessons and he was good to go.  We are working on load size.  At first two shirts constituted a load.  Then after explaining water waste he tried washing every piece of cloth in the house at once.  It was amazing to me how helpful the extra pair of hands has been the last couple weeks.  I am loving that this is still an exciting new chore that he is eager to help with!     I taught him how to make scrambled eggs, and Jonah now thinks he is the scrambled egg master. He would making them twice a day if I would let him.  Egg consumption in our home was high, a...
