Elise has Allergies?

I took Elise to the doctor today because I thought something wasn't quite right.  She has been fussy the last couple of days (It is funny how relative the term "fussy" is-these would have been really good days for a couple of my other babies!) She has been making a couple funny little sounds and woke up screaming at 4:00 this morning.  She eats fine as long as she was on pain reliever otherwise she just sucks a few times and cries.
I felt a little silly taking her in without a fever, but she had Hand, Foot and Mouth a couple of weeks ago, and I wondered if something was connected to that.  Turns out Dr. Van Roekel thinks that she has seasonal allergies.  She has some serious post nasal drip going on.  For the most part he wants us to keep her inside with the AC on until pollen counts go down.  Ragweed is highest at dawn and dusk so hold off on the after breakfast and after supper walks.  She is not really old enough for meds however we can give her a little Zyrtec as needed. The kicker is if we give her meds when it is not needed we will cause ear problems.  (The mucus will thicken and plug her ears and we fight ear infections.) He added that this we have to keep an eye on her for the next few months allergies aside because Hand Foot and Mouth will effect her like mono in an adult, and her immune system is really weak right now.
The allergy thing is kind of an educated guess, but with one parent with allergies the doctor said our kids have an 80% chance of having allergies that is what her symptoms seem to be pointing too.  Looks like I will be awaiting the first frost not only for myself but Reuben and now Elise too!

A Very Late Posting of 1st Day of Enrichment Class!

Yep, enrichment classes started over a month ago and I am just now posting the "First Day of Class" photos.  This year we cut back to just one day.  It is lovely.  Jonah and Audrey are both taking art and science.  Jonah is also taking drama.  I am really curious to see how he does with that because he has been really excited about it.  The back packs are completely unnecessary, but a must for the back to class picture!     Getting Ready to head out!   Miss Poser as she gets ready to go inside!    Way too cool for this   Me too Mom!

A little extra help

I had heard that age 8 was when a mom feels like a child can really help out around the house.  I must have an exceptional child because Jonah has become very helpful at 7 1/2!  :)    I kept asking him to load the washing machine, and then one day I heard it running!  He took it upon himself to start the machine as well.  A couple of quick lessons and he was good to go.  We are working on load size.  At first two shirts constituted a load.  Then after explaining water waste he tried washing every piece of cloth in the house at once.  It was amazing to me how helpful the extra pair of hands has been the last couple weeks.  I am loving that this is still an exciting new chore that he is eager to help with!     I taught him how to make scrambled eggs, and Jonah now thinks he is the scrambled egg master. He would making them twice a day if I would let him.  Egg consumption in our home was high, a...
